OLD UNPUBLISHED DRAFT FROM 2022!
Hi everyone, I visited Lepakshi when I was in India, and thought of writing about the things I saw and the history of Lepakshi. Lepakshi is a Telugu word that means rise bird when translated to English. The town of Lepakshi is connected to Hindu mythology, it is known for being connected to the story of Ramayana. It is believed that when Ravana abducted Sita, Jatayu(a large vulture) attacked Ravana to help free Sita. They both fought hard, but in the end, Jatayu(a large vulture) ended up dying. When Jatayu(a large vulture) was about to win Ravana took out a sword and cut off one of his wings. Meanwhile, when Lord Rama and Lakshmana were trying to find out where Ravana had taken Sita they found Jatayu(a large vulture) suffering from his wounds. Jatayu informed them that Ravana had gone south, and later ended up dying from his wounds. Lord Rama performed Jatayu's funeral and whispered Le Pakshi to help him attain salvation. This is one of the believed tales about Jatayu, but there are definitely many more explaining this same event.
